Social effect of Bullying on Children

Bullying is an action which is not admirable, unwanted, aggressive behavior. Nowadays, bullying happens in the most of countries, it can be seen from the newscast which informs the news of bulling issue.

Bullying is caused by many factors, they are lack of adult supervision, jealousy, revenge, etc. In the other side, a child who is socially anxious becomes a target of bully for a number of reasons. Bullying againts a child who has a few friends or spends a lot of time alone, lack assertiveness, appears vulnerable and has low self –esteem. A child who is bullied has many signs, such as change in desire to go to school, sadness or anxiety, etc.

It can affect to the child’s growing. It has many bad effects for child’s growing. Based on an article from www.pathstonementalhealth.ca that stress and anxiety caused by bullying and harassment can make it more difficult for kids to learn. It can be seen that bullying causes child feels anxiety and fear, it will give a negative impact to his/her social interaction, and the child might be an antisocial person to avoid the bullying. The statement about bad side effect also supported by Cape (1999) that research shows that later in life, those bullied as kids of ten had difficulty making friends with others and were wary of people in their own and older age groups, a correlative with the relatives ages of their bullies to them. It can be assumed that bullying on children has bad effect for their life. If this problem cannot be handle, it will damage their future. However, based on someone’s opinion who wrote the effect of bullying on his article that the possitive effect of bullying is making a child strong, it makes a child mentally strong and she or he is not easily let down by difficult people ever again in her/his life. It can be assumed that someone who is bullied get taste of the real world and a child learns about independence, self-defense and becomes stronger. 

In conclusion, bullying has negative and positive effect for child’s growing. In this situation, parent and teacher have an important role to avoid bullying on children. Parent and teacher must know and aware to signs of bullied child, they also must be a parent who always makes a good communication with their children. According to the writer’s view a good communication is one of the efforts to avoid bullying. When parent always communicative with their children; the children fell that they have someone who protects them and care to them.
